UATV News and members of the broadcast staff have qualified for national competition this summer.
The program won first place in TV News Broadcast at the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Regional Awards in April. The Broadcast II class production of “Arkansas on Campus” finished second in the same category.
“I'm proud to have helped lead the station to this achievement, and excited to go toe-to-toe with other national leaders in student journalism,” UATV station manager Dan Phillips said. “Everyone from senior staff to producers and technical staff and wonderful volunteers should take pride in this accomplishment.”
Phillips earned first-place honors in the categories of TV Feature Photography and Radio Feature at the conference and won second place in TV General News Reporting.
Marci Manley won first place in TV In-Depth Reporting and second in TV Feature, and Kate Luck finished third in TV Feature and TV General News Reporting.
All first-place finishers advance to SPJ nationals in Indianapolis.
