This year, 23 students participated in the Lemke Journalism Project, a workshop aimed at trying to get students interested in journalism. This was the eighth year for the project.
The students, from Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers, were presented awards, a certificate for one hour of training at Community Access Television and copies of the paper they created. Students also were presented “fun” awards such as the “Student Deemed Most Likely to Stand Out in a Crowd.”
Carina Soto, a senior at Springdale High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the UA. This was her third year to participate in the project, and she plans to enroll as a journalism major next fall.
“I’m so excited,” Soto said. “I enjoyed the past three years. The best part was getting my stories together.”
