Senior journalism major Kate Luck accepted a news reporter position in April at KFSM-TV in Fort Smith.
“I’m very relieved to have gotten it because when I graduate I won’t be panicking trying to find a job,” Luck said. “With the economy the way it is, the journalism industry is on the decline.”
Luck, a 2005 graduate of Greenwood High School, spent the final three weeks of the spring semester working full time with the CBS affiliate, making the 120-mile round trip five days a week.
“For a couple of weeks I had to finish out my shifts at Barnes and Noble, so I was working seven days a week” Luck said. “Luckily I was only taking nine hours of school, so it wasn’t as big of an issue.”
Luck is the third UA grad working for the affiliate, joining Mary Marsh and Ashley Ketz, who work in the Fayetteville bureau.
