The Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Cowboys highlighted the annual trip. Members had the opportunity to be “mini-employees” for the day and to shadow the fast-paced businesses. One-on-one attention was given to members by high-profile employees of the Dallas teams.
George Killebrew Sr., senior vice president of corporate sponsorships for the Dallas Mavericks, and Rich Dalrymple, director of public relations for the Dallas Cowboys, spoke about their jobs and how they got into the sports business. A question-and-answer sessions following their presentations offered PRSSA members the chance to personally address the men.
Killebrew is entering his 18th season with the Mavericks and fifth as senior vice president. He joined the organization in 1991 to head up all sales and marketing for the then-Mavericks-owned Dallas Sidekicks soccer team. Killebrew eventually became an account executive in the Mavericks sponsorship group, then the manager of the department, director and vice president before assuming his current role as senior VP.
Dalrymple has been the primary publicist for the Cowboys since 1990. He was the sports information director at the University of Miami and worked alongside Jimmy Johnson, who later was a big influence in getting him the PR job in Dallas. Dalrymple is considered one of the more powerful members of the Cowboys organization behind owner Jerry Jones.
