When entering college, students search for a place to feel at home.
For 21-year-old journalism major Tyler Bjornson, originally from Winnipeg, Canada, that search ended at the campus radio station, 88.3 KXUA FM. Bjornson has been with the radio station for more than a year and has created his own personality for his weekly time slot.
“KXUA is different from other stations. I get some creative freedom with the songs I choose, which I think our listeners appreciate,” Bjornson said.
The campus radio station also differs in that it does not play the same top 40 hits listeners hear in heavy rotation on many of the stations today.
Bjornson’s other broadcasting experiences include traveling with the Razorback women’s soccer team and doing radio broadcasts of their games.
“Sports radio is something I am very interested in." Bjornson said. "The things I have gotten to do so far will help me with what I want to do later in life. It’s all pretty character building, and I am grateful for the opportunity to do it.
Upon graduation, Bjornson said, he looks forward to using his education and skills learned to find a job in sports radio.
